Concentration Improves Memory


Many people, specially when they reach a certain age, start to see some flaws in their memory.They forget meetings, they forget foods they need to buy at the grocery store and many times they tend to forget people's names.This has been considered as normal and as due to aging and in part this is true.However, more and more young people find themselves with these type of problems, and many of them are looking for solutions to this problem.In this article I am going to talk about one of the biggest enemies for our brain and I am going to talk about how concentration improves memory.If you don't read carefully and don't apply it as much as you can, you will end up with a brain of a eighty year old person by the age of forty.Our modern age has seen the birth of many advances in technology.Computers, smart phones, instant messages and many other miracles that somehow have made the world a better place.However, more and more researches are showing that our brain suffers from the type of behaviour we have when we use these devices on a constant basis.Multitasking, doing many things at the same time, damages our brain very badly.You should avoid it as much as possible, in any situation.I realize that at work for you it could be just impossible to work focused without interruptions on chunks of fifty or sixty minutes.Colleagues enter your office to ask something, the phone rings, the email software makes sounds anytime you have a new message and so on.Every time you are doing something and you are interrupted, it takes something like twenty minutes after the interruption to get back on track.And maybe when you are about to get something done or you are in a flow, something pops out and gets you out of track once again.Your brain suffers a lot from this type of situation.If possible, work on focused chunks of time and let everyone know that you are not available in those.Turn off the computer and take calls only on specific times of the day.Do the same with emails.Quite rarely emergencies are so bad that can' t wait for an hour.Concentration, on the other hand, improves memory dramatically.Doing one thing completely absorbed we enter the state that the author of the book 'The Power Of Full Engagement' call the Flow Zone.In this you can be more creative and more productive than in any other states.It's not common practice among people and the few who do it are the ones that not only get more things done, but also they have the healthiest brains and memories as well.All the magic devices that we love, such as computers and iPhones, as well as all the progresses that our species made during the centuries, weren't made by people who were doing something for twenty minutes then they switched to the second one for ten minutes then they switched to the third one and so on.They were totally concentrated on a project at once, and this is what brought them to their discoveries.So I strongly encourage you to avoid multitasking as much as possible.If you can, let anyone know in your office that you need to work alone and focused for chunks of fifty minutes.Let them know times of the day when they can call or email.Alternatively, turn off your email software and turn on your voicemail in those periods.I am confident that if you do it, you will see amazing results and you will see how concentration improves memory.
